Helping you plan and make a will

It’s not easy to talk about the end of our lives, but making a will is one of the most important things you can do for your family and loved ones.

Wills should be legally binding documents but must be prepared with the help of an experienced legal professional.

Ormrods Solicitors & Advocates can ensure your wishes are carried out when you pass away, and how your assets and finances are managed and divided up.

If you have children, relatives, friends or dependants who rely on you for financial support, and you wish for them to benefit in some way from your estate, you can ensure that your will sets out the appropriate financial arrangements.

Wills are also useful in protecting your children’s welfare, especially if you are cohabiting or in a civil partnership.

There are important tax implications to consider too.  If you do not have a will, your property could be shared out in a way that you do not want and, ultimately, some or all of your property could pass to the crown.

Ormrods can advise you on inheritance tax and draft your will to better protect your estate and minimise your tax liability.  We may also be able to assist you in restructuring your estate (see our webpage on estate planning ) to ensure you do not pay any more than you have to when you die.

Wills are relatively inexpensive to prepare, and unless there are complex tax planning issues and/or trusts to be managed, Ormrods charge a fixed fee for the service.  We will always let you know what the cost will be before we start work on your will.
